Wallingford

The historic thriving market town of Wallingford is situated on the one of the most beautiful stretches of the River Thames. Surrounded by the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the town itself is one of the most popular and picturesque in the Thames Valley.

It has excellent communication links and is within easy reach of both the M40 and the M4 and only 15 miles from Oxford and 14 miles to Reading. There are frequent bus services between Oxford and Reading whilst Cholsey and Didcot train stations are just two and five miles away respectively and both provide main line access to London Paddington.

In the town centre there is a wide array of shops and restaurants including a Waitrose supermarket, an antiques arcade, cafes and gift and fashion boutiques. A country market is held every Friday in Market Place and every three weeks there is a Farmers’ Market.

Theatrical productions and mainstream films are shown at The Corn Exchange and the town plays hosts to a number of fetes and festivals throughout the year – one of the most popular being an annual event to celebrate the life and works of Agatha Christie who lived and worked in the town for more than 40 years.

The town is also famous for its castle ruins and ramparts that are set in beautifully managed gardens.

For the more energetic the town has a sports park, gym, outdoor swimming pool heated from May to September, rowing, netball, badminton, tennis, football, rugby, hockey and running clubs as well as several cycling and walking groups that benefit from the Thames Path and Ridgeway.

Schools in the town include two primary schools and Wallingford Secondary School where the teaching was judged to be outstanding (Ofsted 2017) and there are several private schools nearby including Moulsford Preparatory School and Cranford House School.
