Historical Note;
Turnstone Cottage was formerly known as Balcony Studio has an extremely rich and varied history incorporating the famous 'St Ives School' of the late 30's and 40's. This cottage itself has an intriguing and interesting history as part of the artistic heritage of the town.Pauline Hewitt - widely recognised as a stalwart of the St Ives artistic community lived in the cottage from around 1931 for over 40 years before moving to Surrey in the last years of her life. She produced much highly prized work and can be seen sitting on the balcony painting on many archived photographs.The highly acclaimed abstract and figurative artist Patrick Heron cbe rented the cottage and painted a number of his most famous works here and such was its setting that he recognised it as a major influence in his work when he wrote to the Tate in 1980 after it acquired 'Harbour window with two figures' St Ives which was painted in 1950. For about the last 50 years the cottage has been in the ownership of the same family and notably lived in by Captain 'Phil' Moran who held the position of Launching authority for 16 years on the St Ives Lifeboat and helped organise over 400 rescues . Captain Phil forged a friendship with renowned illustrator Michael Foreman and this friendship spilled over to Michael illustrating the famous 'Soggy Bear' stories written by Phil in this cottage. Phil could be seen and recognised by many many people sitting in the window of this wonderful cottage looking out over the ever changing sea.

Auction Notes

Guide Price
An indication of the seller`s current minimum acceptable price at auction. The guide price or range of guide prices is given to assist consumers in deciding whether or not to pursue a purchase. It is usual, but not always, that a provisional reserve range is agreed between the seller and the auctioneer at the start of marketing. As the reserve is not fixed at this stage and can be adjusted by the seller at any time up to the day of the auction in the light of interest shown during the marketing period, a guide price is issued. This guide price can be shown in the form of a minimum and maximum price range within which an acceptable sale price (reserve) would fall, or as a single price figure within 10% of which the minimum acceptable price (reserve) would fall. A guide price is different to a reserve price (see separate definition). Both the guide price and the reserve price can be subject to change up to and including the day of the auction.

Reserve Price
The seller`s minimum acceptable price at auction and the figure below which the auctioneer cannot sell. Bids may be accepted by the system but the property will not sell if the bidding does not reach the reserve. The reserve price is not disclosed and remains confidential between the seller and the auctioneer. Both the guide price and the reserve price can be subject to change up to and including the day of the auction
