About Sherwood Croft
Quality of life is about the details of everyday living. From the little things, like knowing the nearest place to pick up a pint of milk, to more important matters like finding the right school or having a health centre nearby, you need to know that the community you’re moving to will support you and your family, as well as being a pleasant place to live. So here’s some useful information about the area around Sherwood Croft.

Thorpe Willoughby is just seven miles from the A1(M). Buses between Selby and Leeds pass along Leeds Road, adjacent to Sherwood Croft, and the Selby Circular bus route also has frequent services linking the development with the town centre and the village of Brayton. Trains from Selby run to York and Leeds, both journeys of around half an hour, and to London King’s Cross, less than two hours away.

The village has two small groups of shops. The one nearest to Sherwood Croft includes a general store and greengrocer with an off-licence, a fish and chip shop and a newsagent incorporating a post office. The other, around ten minutes walk away, contains a pharmacy, a convenience store and a hairdresser.

The traditional market town centre of Selby, two miles away, offers a wide variety of local traders and supermarkets. Openair markets are held every Monday in both the Market Place and Micklegate, and there is a monthly Farmers’ Market. There are recycling facilities for paper and packaging at Selby Leisure Centre, and for glass at the Morrisons supermarket in Selby.

Thorpe Willoughby supports several sports clubs and social organisations, including a Sports Association based at Field Lane Sports Centre. There are cricket, junior hockey, football and table tennis clubs, a scout group and an amateur dramatic society. Selby Golf Course is less than a mile to the south, and Selby Leisure Centre incorporates swimming pools, a gym, fitness studio and sports pitches. The Burn Gliding Club is amongst the more unusual local activities, and the development is next to Brayton Barff, a wooded wildlife habitat with extensive footpaths that offers a wonderfully relaxing place to enjoy the local flora and fauna.

Selby’s awardwinning Town Hall arts centre presents an eclectic programme of live shows and cinema ranging from major international touring drama, music and comedy to a community-run cinema focusing on classic films.

Thorpe Willoughby Community Primary School, set in open grounds quarter of a mile from the development, was recognised by Ofsted in 2015 for both its educational achievements and its welcoming atmosphere. Children from Thorpe Willoughby attend Selby High School, which has specialist status in the arts and science. The village medical practice, less than ten minutes walk from Sherwood Croft, is part of the South Milford Surgery group and is open on weekday mornings, and there is a choice of dentists in Selby.
