Surrounded by greenery and positioned within the peaceful Preston Village Conservation Area, this three-bedroom family home has modern and stylish interior with leafy views from every room. It sits at the top of a quiet road and is one of eight modern houses built in 1976. With a southerly aspect to the rear, its generous rooms are filled with natural light streaming in through wide picture windows, and the rooms are versatile to suit both families and professionals alike. Mid-Century architecture and styling are in a revival period at present, so the clean lines of the house give it plenty of kerb appeal, and solar roof panels give it sustainability credentials while saving huge sums on the yearly utility bills. For those who commute, you can walk to Preston Park Station in under five minutes or drive out to the A23/A27 in the same time, and for families, the schools within catchment are excellent. So too are the parks, and while there are plenty of local amenities, you also have easy access to the city centre on foot, by bus or by train, and there is off street parking for one car. With so many attractive features, this house will appeal to many.

Why you'll like it:

Preston Village has a wonderful blend of properties ranging from quaint 17th Century cottages, through to these striking 20th century homes, yet they all sit harmoniously behind pretty gardens; in the dappled shade of the leafy embankment. Both architectural styles hold their own charm, but this house has particular interest with asymmetric angles to its roofline, generous box bay windows and a crisp white façade.

Passing the driveway, you approach the house through a secure porch; perfect for storing shoes, then into a wide and welcoming hallway where engineered oak flooring flows into the generous living room to the right. This has a deep, floor to ceiling bay window, overlooking the quiet street, while an entire wall of glazed bi-fold doors divides the seating area with the dining area, so light is also able to permeate through the room from the south. While open, the room becomes one large space for entertaining, then when divided, the rooms become homelier with spaces for formal dining and relaxation. The decoration is immaculate throughout, using a clean palette which will suit all styles of modern furnishing, allowing you to move straight in with ease.

The dining area and kitchen span the width of the house to the rear, which was made possible when the garage was converted a few years ago. There is space for a large dining table and chairs to the right, and the kitchen forms a U shape to the left. Cream timber cabinetry has been paired with wooden worktops to echo the floor, and the fridge freezer, oven and gas hob have been integrated, leaving space for a dishwasher. Adjoining this is a large store room area with a second door to the front so you could bring in bikes and buggies etc. Without traipsing them through the house. The utilities are also housed in here and there is a useful ground floor WC – ideal in any shared space.

A further set of double glazed bi-folding doors divide the dining room and the conservatory, so the whole floor can be opened up in the summer months, or when entertaining. The conservatory roof has thermal glass so it allows solar reflection to reduce glare in warmer weather, and thermal insulation in the cold, so it can be used all year round. You access the garden from here which gets lots of sun due to its southerly orientation and has a raised bed for planting plus space for colourful pots. A gate leads to a communal right of way to Home Road, which is also useful for bringing in bikes or gardening tools.

Returning to the entrance, stairs lead to the landing where bedroom two is to the left. All the bedrooms are generous doubles, and this one also benefits from a built-in double wardrobe. The views over Preston village are charming with flint buildings and an array of trees adding colour, and being dual aspect, it is naturally light. Next door, the contemporary shower room is streamlined with large, slate-grey tiling and a curved walk-in shower cubicle.

Working your way round the landing you come to bedroom three, and although it is currently set up as an office, it could easily fit a double bed, and has a single built in wardrobe. Also dual aspect, the principal bedroom benefits from a fitted double wardrobe, and also a deep window sill for displaying ornaments or photos. The en suite has a comfortable bath with central taps so you can bathe comfortably at either end, and a small tiled shelf runs along the perimeter of the room which would be perfect for candles to create a truly relaxing atmosphere.

Owner's secret

"This has been a wonderful home for us in the four years we have been here. We have enjoyed entertaining here – particularly in the summer when the ground floor opens up to the garden. As commuters, the close proximity of the station has been amazing, and we love how peaceful it is here for somewhere which is still so well-connected. We are moving out of the country for work, but we will miss our time here."
