Begbroke is Old English for "Little Brook" and this refers to Rowel Brook which runs through the village and is a tributary of the River Cherwell. The village has a public house, the Royal Sun Inn that has traded since at least 1711 and also a village hall with cricket and bowling greens. The Church of England parish church of Saint Michael is a lovely 12th-century Norman building. The nearby Oxford Parkway Railway Station provides regular connections to London Marylebone with the historic City of Oxford being approximately five miles distant with a regular bus service from the village.
