House For Sale £3,500,000
Studio House, Strathmore Gardens, London W8

Description
This light-filled former artist’s studio occupies an incredibly private corner of Strathmore Gardens, a quiet no-through road located minutes from Notting Hill Gate and Kensington Gardens. It was designed by the architect Jonathan Woolf and extends to almost 1,700 sq ft, with three bedrooms and a private courtyard garden.

The house is positioned at the end of an elegant cul-de-sac and entered at raised-ground level through a modest façade between two Regency villas. An entrance corridor leads to an open-plan reception room with a spectacular double-height barrel-vaulted ceiling and full-height glazing over the courtyard garden to the rear. Wide-board oak flooring extends throughout and a gas fire is recessed on one side. The kitchen is bespoke, with Corian worktops and appliances by Alpes Inox and Siemens.

An open-tread staircase of oak and steel links the first-floor and lower-ground bedrooms. On the lower level is a guest bedroom with independent access, a shower room, and beyond a sliding pocket door is a dramatic master bedroom with a marble-clad shower room and huge sliding doors to the rear garden.

On the first floor is a large mezzanine bedroom with high ceilings and roof lights, and a short level above is a shower room, clad in pink tiling and with a large porthole window. The house is fully air conditioned.

Established in 1991, Jonathan Woolf Architects was an award-winning international practice whose work ranged from private houses and apartment buildings through to arts, educational, commercial buildings and interiors. In 2003 the practice completed Brick Leaf House in Hampstead, North London, which received a riba Award and a Civic Trust Award, and became the first private building to reach the mid-list of the UK Stirling Prize. Jonathan Woolf died in 2015 and is widely remembered as one of the most significant architects of his generation.

Strathmore Gardens is an incredibly quiet cul-de-sac of handsome period properties set within the Kensington Palace Conservation Area. The house is within a short walk of the excellent boutiques, restaurants, cafes and markets of Notting Hill and Kensington Church Street. The open spaces of Kensington Gardens and Holland Park are close at hand.
