Location

Ruscombe is what is called locally a 'hill village', which developed high up on the escarpment immediately west of Stroud, a Cotswold market town with a post industrial history, dating from when the water powered cloth mills in the surrounding valleys, made the region very prosperous in the 17th and 18th centuries. As such the village originally comprised a scattered collection of houses and cottages for workers associated with the trade. Modern Stroud is a very different place with a vibrant arts scene which is constantly evolving. As the administrative centre for the south-west Cotswolds it also has excellent facilities including 4 major supermarkets, 2 grammar schools, leisure centre, multiplex cinema, provincial theatre and main line train station with regular services into London Paddington from just over 90 minutes. Ruscombe and Whiteshill benefit from an active, well supported community with an excellent calendar of events and classes held within the Village Hall, the Village Shop Community Hub and Whiteshill School. For commuting from Ruscombe, access to the M5 motorway is especially good - Junction 13 (Stroud) for Bristol, the West Country or the Midlands - Birmingham being about an hour by car.
