History

'Nortcarltone' is listed in William the Conqueror’s Doomsday Book and from 1303 until the dissolution, the Manor belonged to Barlings Abbey.

In 1936, The King’s England (known as the modern Doomsday Book) says of the Hall: “Across a field by the church can be seen a charming Tudor Hall, with grey gabled walls and red roofs enhanced in autumn by the warm glow of creeper. Here, Henry VIII is said to have stayed in 1541 when on his way to Lincoln, and to have knighted his host, John Monson” on the doorstep.

Locality

There are plenty of good schools in the area, including grammar schools. The nearest school, Scampton CofE Primary, is rural, a mile away and very good. Lincoln Minster School is an all-through independent in the heart of the city and is extremely popular for those seeking private education for their children aged 2 - 18 years old.

Transport links with London have recently been upgraded with direct trains from Kings Cross to Lincoln Central Station (5 miles) and nearby Newark (30 minutes) has trains to and from Kings Cross every 30 minutes (approximately 1 hour 20 minutes). There are frequent trains to Nottingham. Several A roads also serve the city, including the north to south A15, the A46, the A57 and the A158. Private planes may land at RAF Scampton (8 minutes) and helicopters have landed in the park.

The Dambusters Inn and microbrewery is a popular public house in neighbouring Scampton, easily accessible either by foot or by car. This award-winning establishment enjoys a plethora of WW2 memorabilia and enjoys an exceptional range of beers, as well as good food.

Gardens & Grounds

The property is approached along a gravel driveway which sweeps round to the front driveway with an additional access to the rear of the house. A large pond is located at the bottom of the front garden which is mainly laid to lawn. An extensive range of outbuildings, some of which were previously stables, are situated along the approach to the house which are currently used as storage but are considered suitable for conversion, subject to planning.

Further outbuildings are located to the rear of the property, together with a swimming pool and a tennis court towards the western boundary. The majority of land is permanent pasture with additional woodland located along the western edge of the holding with pretty pathways.

The mediaeval property was moated, with two large parts of the moat still present. The current gravel driveway runs alongside the extensive range of outbuildings, whereas historically a more prominent access is understood to have approached the house through the parkland, an entrance the new owners may well wish to re-establish.

The sale of the Hall is an opportunity to acquire what is regarded as a home of great importance. It is featured in Pevsner's influential 'Buildings of England'. There are two further parcels of land (approximately 25 acres) which may be available, by separate negotiation.
