Although the house is in the centre of the town, it stands in a very quiet tucked away position with the High Street, lined with shops, banks and cafes, only a few minutes walk away. Ilfracombe itself is a good sized Victorian seaside town and caters well for it's inhabitants. There is a wide variety of independent shops, along with a range of supermarkets including Tesco, Lidl and Co-Op. There are three schools within the town to cater for all ages: An Infant School, Junior School and Secondary/Sixth Form School. There are also several village schools nearby as well as a choice of Private Schools.

For entertainment, the award-winning Landmark Theatre is on the Promenade, whilst there is also a 3 screen cinema, a swimming pool and a golf course. The very attractive harbour has a further selection of shops and art galleries, and Damien Hirst's 25m high 'Verity' stands proud on the pier. The South West Coast Path runs through the town and opens up many miles of superb walks along the rugged North Devon coastline with it's spectacular scenery and views over the Bristol Channel.

Situated on the North Devon coast, Ilfracombe is only a few minutes drive from Woolacombe with its 3 miles of golden sands. Woolacombe, along with Croyde and Saunton is a popular destination for surfing enthusiasts. Exmoor National Park, with it's dramatic landscape and picturesque villages is only a twenty minute drive away, whilst the main market town of Barnstaple is just over 12 miles to the south, where there is a full range of amenities including Tesco, Sainsbury's, Asda and Lidl stores. Along with a good selection of independent shops in the main High Street, Barnstaple also has a covered shopping centre in the town as well as out of town shopping at Roundswell, where a range of superstores can be found. A new leisure centre is under contruction and the Tarka Tennis centre offers other sporting facilities. There is also a railway station in Barnstaple which links to Exeter.

There are good communciations to the area, with the M5 motorway (Junction 27) linking to North Devon via the A361 (North Devon Link Road) being about an hours drive away. Tiverton Parkway (an hours drive from Ilfracombe) also has excellent rail links to London Paddington, with a train journey time of just over 2 hours.
