House For Sale £2,250,000
Mill Lane, Hurley, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6

Description
Chelston is set in a discreet location close to the heart of Hurley, a picturesque village on the banks of the River Thames. The house is approached via a pair of electrically operated wooden gates set into a brick and flint wall that marks the boundary of the old abbey. The main part of the house dates back to the 1950s and has subsequently been extended to make the most of its secluded grounds. The principal ground floor rooms open off the large reception hall and the dual aspect dining room with a fireplace is located opposite the kitchen. The reception rooms are wonderfully light,
thanks in part to the south-westerly aspect. French doors open from the family room, the kitchen and the conservatory to the terracing at the rear of the property which is ideally suited to al fresco dining. The spacious fitted kitchen provides a less formal
alternative to the dining room for family suppers. Adjoining the kitchen, the family room offers wide views of the garden and double doors to the reception hall. A staircase rises from the reception hall to the first floor galleried landing where there are five bedrooms, four of which look out across the back garden. The master suite is well proportioned with deep skylights and garden views. A generous storage area is located behind the fitted wardrobes and an ensuite offers a
modern power-shower, as does the family bathroom.

Outside

Chelston sits centrally on its one acre plot. A brick-paved circular driveway with an island in the middle leads to the house and is bordered on both sides by areas of lawn interspersed with mature trees. The integral double garage with automated rising doors offers space for two cars and houses a fully automated well. There is also a filtering system for drinking water. The grounds to the rear of the property are extensive and mostly laid to lawn. A collection of fruit trees include apple, cherry and plum while jasmine bushes grow against the external wall beside the terrace. The tranquil gardens have a very private feel and belie their proximity to the village centre. Outside the property a footpath leads directly to the Thames giving immediate access to the islands and towpaths leading to Henley and Marlow.

Situation

Hurley is an attractive, historic Thames-side village which includes one of the oldest hostelries in Britain, The Olde Bell, dating back to the 12th century. The parish church, which was part of the Priory of St Mary, is also of the same period. The riverside market towns of Marlow and Henley are close by and provide a wide variety of shops and boutiques along with highly renowned restaurants and bars, such as the Michelin starred Hand and Flowers and Cliveden. There is plenty of scope for delightful walks in the surrounding countryside, either along the river on the Thames Path or in the nearby Chilterns. Transport links include the M4 at junction 8/9 to Heathrow Airport and London. Rail links at Maidenhead to Paddington are excellent with Crossrail expected soon. There is a wide selection of highly regarded schools in the vicinity including several primary schools in Marlow and Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School. There are also many noteworthy independent schools in the area.
