Description
About cliffe house When visiting Cliffe House, you can still see some of the original features including some beautifully intricate cornicing, impressive fireplaces, coloured and leaded glass feature window over the main staircase, and much more. The property offers a huge amount of potential on how you use it, but why not continue with the successful B&B business, which the current owners have previously run alongside the main family residence and provided a good income.

The main reception rooms and kitchen are accessed from the central parlour, and staircases rise at three points to the bedrooms and bathrooms of the first floor, and then on up to the attic level rooms and apartment. Although a large property, it still manages to feel homely and comfortable, and almost every window provides delightful views over the gardens and woodland. Cliffe House has a gas fired central heating system supplied by two boilers, and most of the windows are double glazed with the remaining still having the wonderful original glass panes.

Externally, the property is approached through a pair of stone pillars bearing the name 'Cliffe House' through which you will find a large parking area. The house fronts onto and looks out over beautiful gardens bordered by trees, shrubs and stone walls, and the adjoining woodland is home to an array of birds and wildlife. Our clients have also been making an interesting garden trail in the grounds beyond the parking area at the rear, along with various sitting areas and patios providing space for outside entertaining and al fresco dining.

The original part of the house was built at the very end of the Georgian period in 1810 for local mill owner George Wm. Farrar. It was then extended only a few years later to accommodate his daughter, and until the current owners purchased the property in 1996, it has always been occupied by descendants of the Farrar family.
