Vendor's Comment's:-

It will be a real wrench to leave my home in Montpelier, Where I have lived for over thirty years. It is a genuinely very friendly street and i'll be back to visit the many friends that i've made over the years. We have a very active street group, which has been incredibly supportive during the Covid crisis. We meet for open-air drinks regularly and often swap plants, books, recipes and respond very swiftly to requests for help, whether it is to borrow items, swap plants and produce or find a lost cat.

It has been good to live within walking or cycling distance of the centre, the Old Vic theatre, St George's concert hall, shops, cinemas, etc, whilst remaining in an incredibly quiet oasis - sitting in my sunny back garden as I write this, I can hear nothing but birdsong.

Upper Cheltenham Place is not a through road to anywhere and is therefore quieter than the surrounding streets, (especially Picton Street, with lots of late night activity) but is only a few yards from some great cafes and restaurants, yoga studios, pubs, a bakery, an Italian deli and an organic farm shop. Also an excellent primary school and health centre/pharmacy.

The house is a good example of late Victorian architecture, with many original features. The rooms are generously proportioned with high ceilings and plenty of light. There is a lot of storage space, with original built-in cupboards in the dining room, space under the stairs, and another built-in cupboard in the bedroom. The bathroom is particularly generous, having once been the third bedroom.

A loft extension is also something I have considered, there is a great view from the roof over the whole city. Next door has planning permission for a loft conversion, (never used) although we are in a conservation area, so changes cannot be visible from the street. I like the fact that the conservation status prevents people from putting satellite dishes on the front of their houses and a recent attempt by a housing association to erect ugly wire fencing up to 6 ft above their front railings was swiftly overturned. My neighbour even makes an extra weekly effort to keep the street clean and litter free, bless him.
