House For Sale £600,000
Dover Street, Canterbury, Kent CT1
previous price £650,000

Description
Nethersole House dates from the early 1600s and has a delightful timber framed and stripped back brickwork exterior, patterned Kent peg tile roof and re-pointed chimneys. Although now a single residential house it was originally three properties and had shops on the ground floor. At a later stage plans were in place to convert the property into a restaurant and, while these plans have lapsed, there is always the opportunity to consider re-applying for a mixture of commercial and residential use. Alternatively it will make a very characterful family home, bed and breakfast or student lodging.

The main front door opens directly into a charming sitting room with a large original inglenook fireplace, exposed beams and stairs to the first floor. There is immediate access to a modern cloakroom and a door to the inner hall leading to the dining room and a drawing room with an equally impressive inglenook and open archways to a useful snug and another modern cloakroom. An extension incorporating a double bedroom and the modern kitchen with glossy white units and French doors to the courtyard was built in 1996.

The first floor includes a family bathroom and two double bedrooms with one en suite. In the other direction there is a double bedroom leading to a small bedroom/dressing room or nursery and an en suite shower. On the second floor there is double bedroom, a study area and a trendy bathroom while outside is the charming walled courtyard.

Please refer to the footnote regarding the services and appliances.

What the Owner says:
"I bought this property in 1989 when it was known as 34,35 and this property. I started renovating it by revealing the beautiful external brickwork. Most recently new bathrooms and cloakrooms were installed for bed and breakfast guests and the rear catslide roof was repaired. Because of the three different addresses causing confusion Canterbury City Council agreed the property should become this property and I named it Nethersole House in memory of my Nethersole ancestors.

Canterbury includes many historic buildings, high street stores, individual shops, numerous restaurants, bars, two theatres and the cinema plus two stations including Canterbury West with the high speed train to St Pancras. There are also excellent grammar and private schools, three universities and plenty of opportunities for sporting enthusiasts".
