what is shared ownership?
Shared ownership housing is a scheme, which aims to bridge the gap between owner occupation and renting. It gives people who at present cannot afford full home ownership the opportunity of buying a percentage share in their own property and brings with it both the benefits and responsibilities of owner occupation.

Under this scheme the shared owner buys a long lease on a property and pays a peppercorn ground rent on the remaining equity, which is retained by the housing association.

Who is shared ownership for?

To qualify for this scheme you must:-
# Have a strong local connection through birth, upbringing, employment or a previous period of residency.
# Have a total household income which is sufficient to meet monthly mortgage payment and service charge

How does shared ownership work

In addition to your mortgage payment you will also pay to the housing association a monthly service charge presently £23.61 per month plus the annual structural insurance.
