Moving to Timberland was the beginning of a whole new way of life for the current owners. “We were looking to semi-retire and perhaps find a little business to give us an income that would allow us lots of time to ourselves. We fell in love with the history of this house and its peaceful location amongst the Lincolnshire fens.” The original part of the house dates to 1650 with two later annexes which have created an impressively spacious home ideal for large or inter-generational families. “For us though, it offered the potential to create a holiday cottage business as the annexes can easily operate as independent accommodation.”

“When we moved in, we realised the house had lost some of its original character, so we set about a scheme of re-decoration and restoration to bring it back to its former glory, including renovating fireplaces and installing new window shutters.”

“The kitchen is one of our favourite rooms. It easily accommodates our family-sized table, has a great Range cooker and is always lovely and cosy so it’s where we spend a lot of time and where our guests usually like to congregate. But there are another couple of rooms which deserve a mention; the bathroom has a lovely central freestanding bath, a vaulted ceiling, and amazing views; whilst the sitting room is a great place to escape with its book lined walls and cosy, open fire.”

The walled garden is another delightful feature of the property. “Once you close the garden gate it really is a secluded, pretty, and very peaceful paradise where all you hear is birdsong or the hoot of owls on an evening. It’s south facing which gets the sun all day, and there’s a shaded terrace and a summer house making it a great place to either relax or entertain. In fact, we’ve had numerous garden parties, and afternoon teas for family, friends and, on occasion, the whole village!”

“We’ll really miss the character and charm of this house, and all the space! We’ve loved having the time to get to know our neighbours and relax amongst this beautiful countryside. Everyone here is so friendly, and it’s very safe - there hasn’t been any crime at all during nearly six years we’ve lived here.”

“We’ve had visitors from all over the world in our holiday cottages and met some really fascinating characters. It’s been a rewarding and easy to run business, easily providing an income of around £30,000 a year. All our guests fall in love with the character and charm of the property, the gorgeous countryside and its historical links with the RAF, and most return to visit us time and again.
