We love how this house is so close to New Cross, New Cross Gate and Brockley stations, but when we’re in the house or garden it feels like we’re miles away from London. The gated close feels quaint and tranquil, almost like living in a village community.

We moved from Peckham to New Cross to get this additional space and garden and it’s been great to explore the wonderful areas around us. Within an easy 15-minute walk we can be in Deptford or Brockley with their cafes and restaurants, and we’re just a 15-minute cycle or bus ride from Greenwich park and the buzz of Nunhead and Peckham.

What we love most about this house is how wonderful it is for hosting, with the open plan kitchen that looks small on paper but has really clever built-in storage, a dining space that works well for the two us but with an extendable dining table has comfortably seated 6 – 8 people, and a welcoming lounge area that opens into the garden. In the Summer the garden gets the sun for most of the afternoon and it’s lovely to have the patio doors open throughout the day and feels really safe and secure as an outdoor space. In the winter the house is really easy to heat and feels like a warm and inviting home.

The 4 bedrooms mean that there is lots of space within the house and whilst we’ve chosen to use the extra bedrooms as a guest bedroom, and an office/study for each of us, the previous owners had a young family with two children and were still able to have a home-office space.

Each house has an allocated parking space with additional pavement parking for guests within the close when they visit. Even prior to lockdown there’s been a communal spirit on the close, and this just increased during the pandemic, with neighbours offering to help with shopping when people have self-isolated and supporting local charities with food donations.<br /><br />
