House For Sale £400,000
Middlesmoor, Harrogate HG3

Description
West View Cottage dates back to the seventeenth century. Evidence which can be seen in a notch for the old beam height and the mellow stonework which is believed to have originated from the Fountain's Abbey estate.

Previously the village shop, West View Cottage still has an old fire oven in the lounge that was used as the shop's safe.

Middlesmoor has been the setting of TV programmes featuring Paul o'Grady and Andi Peters and also for the film Fairy Tale - A True Story, which had famous actors Tim McInnery (of Blackadder & Notting Hill fame) and Joe McGann.

An Iron Age settlement is situated behind Middlesmoor's Crown Inn and there is an ancient Saxon cross in St Chad's church. Roman coins have also been found in Tom Taylor's cave at How Stean Gorge, now an outdoor activity centre.

Nearby is Scar Dam, built in the 1930s by Bradford Corporation. A village, complete with hospital and picture house was built for the Dam workers, remains of which can still be seen.

The village has a mixture of properties. Mainly a mix of main residences, second homes and holiday lets. It's a unique place and hosts tourism in the summer. There is also a primary school less than a mile away in Lofthouse.

The property is saturated in so much character it is impossible to describe all of it in the listing. Briefly, a four bedroom home, or a three bedroom home with separate cinema room / office room comes with large rear garden leading to further communal land to enjoy through the garden gate. The rural escape enjoys some of the best views in the area.

If you don't get lost downstairs you can explore the first floor that leads to three double bedrooms, one with private dressing room and ensuite and separate house bathroom.
