Property insight
Ensum Brown are delighted to offer for sale 'Swifts Cottage' a simply stunning 17th century, grade II listed, detached cottage that benefits from an extension in the late 20th century. Situated on a plot in the region of a third of an acre in the highly desirable village of Abbington Pigotts overlooking open countryside and also benefiting from a detached barn style outbuilding that creates an ideal annexe.

Approaching the property, you have gated access to gravelled driveway parking for multiple vehicles, there is also a second secluded drive to the other side of the cottage for a further vehicle. You will immediately see that this property has been superbly maintained, the thatch was replaced in just 2016 and the current owners have taken great care throughout of this fantastic piece of local history.

The outside space of this home is quite idyllic. The substantial south facing gardens are expansive and overlook open fields to the rear. The gardens are mainly laid to lawn with flower and shrub planting, mature trees, a green house, summer house and with a large paved patio area. Within the gardens you will see the detached barn style building that is an ideal separate annexe. If you or a family member don't require the space yourself then you could easily rent this out and generate an additional income or rent out on an Airbnb basis as the current owners do, ideal with the successful 'South Farm' wedding venue a few minutes up the road. The secondary accommodation comprises of an open plan lounge with kitchenette, bedroom, shower room and second bedroom mezzanine. Finally, outside, you have a useful storage room behind the double garage style doors that as well as storage acts as a utility and boot room.

You can enter the main property itself through the traditional front door or by the kitchen stable door at the rear, which is most convenient. When entering you will see that this home has a wealth of original features and character, this includes wooden beams that are a theme throughout and feature fireplaces. The ground floor accommodation is extensive and in the original part of the cottage includes an open plan kitchen with a range of wall and base units and space for all the appliances you could require to a sitting area with Inglenook fireplace. To the other side an open fireplace with a formal dining room and snug seating area. You also have an ideal home office off the rear, perfect if you do work from home or just need a quiet area to shut yourself away and study.

Approximately 40 years ago a rear extension was added to the original cottage and this was kept beautifully in keeping. The two are joined together with a more contemporary glass walled hallway which actually perfectly tie the two together. The extension has added a superb additional sitting room, with feature fireplace housing a wood burning stove, that feels light and airy with a feature vaulted ceiling and with double doors to the rear garden. The extension also has a ground floor bathroom and first floor double bedroom. There are two further double bedrooms in the original part of the cottage, both of which also have their own staircase to access, and one has its own en-suite bathroom and dressing area. You could pick any of these bedrooms to be your master bedroom such is the fantastic choice.
