Country life at its best

If you are looking to embrace the Leicestershire country life within a spacious, comfortable and stylish family home, then look no further – large and lovely five-bedroom detached Hillcrest, located just outside the village of Ullesthorpe, has it all, and much more too.

This is a house for all seasons with the countryside at its heart. The well-stocked lake is the home of a flock of wild mallards and, in the breeding season, their cute ducklings too. It can be fished for tench and rudd, and sun-seeking koi carp can be spotted on the surface in the summer. The garden teems with birdlife and the dawn chorus of goldfinches, tits, fieldfares and woodpeckers. Sparrowhawks and buzzards wheel above, and a barn owl hoots at dusk. Rabbits and hedgehogs are often spotted too.

You can enjoy all this from the panoramic windows of the sitting room or garden room, or in the summer months from the wrap-round patio or the elegant decked seating area right beside the lake.

The gorgeous grounds have plenty of scope in the summer months. The current owners have made the most of their enviable space with everything from barbecues, birthday parties and cricket matches to a wonderful wedding reception.

Inside, this spacious home boasts everything the discerning house-hunter desires, offering flexibility and comfort within its distinctive walls. So please do step inside, and we’ll take a look around . .

Family-sized and fabulous

Pretty as a picture, with cream render, vine-clad red brick and two feature beamed gables, the house stands back from the road and is accessed via a five-bar gate and a sweeping gravel driveway, offering plenty of parking space for numerous cars.

From the covered porch, open the delightful stained glass front door into the chic hallway. The abundance of light and space is a standout feature of Hillcrest, and it’s enhanced by the neutral décor – giving the new owners a blank canvas on which to stamp their personality.

Downstairs, oak flooring and ceramic floor tiles are used throughout, apart from the sitting room, which is carpeted. The stairs, landing and all five bedrooms are also carpeted. Hillcrest has gas central heating and there is uPVC double-glazing throughout.

Both the sitting room and dining room extend to 24ft, offering plenty of space for the family to dine and relax. The sitting room is a beautiful space with an elegant marble fireplace and flooded with light via two sets of sliding glazed doors at the rear with breathtaking views across the gardens and countryside, plus two further windows at the front. Double doors lead through to an enchanting oak-beamed garden room, the perfect place for a cuppa and a browse of the papers in the morning sunshine and to enjoy more of those panoramic views.

With everything neatly to hand, the pretty kitchen has a u-shaped layout of cream shaker units, with oak worktops, a range cooker and Belfast sink. A door leads from the kitchen into the integral double garage, while the dining room is accessed via an archway.

The dining room is neatly divided into the dining area and a delightful lounge, gathered round a brick fireplace with a timber lintel. There are sliding patio doors onto the garden and a gorgeous bay window at the other end.

A smaller, light-filled family room is also accessed from the kitchen. It would be perfect as a playroom or could make a TV room for older children. A study/office is ideal for those working from home and a useful downstairs shower/cloakroom is handy for freshening up after a countryside walk or for dousing muddy children!
And so to bed . .

Plenty of storage is an essential for a growing family and all their associated paraphernalia, and Hillcrest is very well equipped in this aspect with large, built-in wardrobes in each of the five bedrooms.

The dual-aspect master bedroom is a lovely light-filled space with its own en-suite bathroom. All the bedrooms are of generous proportions and the second largest is of particular note, with its wonderful feature bay window. Bedroom three also has dual-aspect windows.

A family bathroom and separate shower room ensure there will be no queueing for washing facilities in the morning!

The great outdoors

The sweeping expanse of Hillcrest’s gardens is undoubtedly a highlight of this excellent property. The lake is a wonderful focal point, with its decking area and gazebo with cedar-shingled roof set amid the lawns and flower borders, while gardeners will be delighted to find a vegetable plot and greenhouse too. A further five-bar gate to the side of the house leads to the stable block.
Keen equestrians with a number of horses to stable and care for will find Hillcrest superbly well-equipped. There are six stables, a tack room, hay barn and three dog kennels with runs. There’s also a shower room plus horse and dog wash facilities plus ample hardstanding for horseboxes and trailers.

The 20x40m sand manege has direct access to the paddocks which have a field shelter and water trough, filled via an underground pipe from the stable block.

Keeping it local

There’s countryside walks, cycling and horse-riding on the doorstep of Hillcrest, but you don’t have to go very far at all to find all the other essentials of everyday life. There’s a bus stop within 100 metres of the house, Palmers garden centre with its popular café is minutes away, and it’s just half-a-mile to the village store and post office in Ullesthorpe.

This thriving village has a village hall that is the hub of community activities, Ullesthorpe ce Primary School and a ‘local’, the oak-beamed Chequers Country Inn serving cask ales and pub meals all day (currently from noon-10pm).
With a past rooted in agriculture, Ullesthorpe windmill stands as a reminder of when the mill and workers toiled dawn til dusk grinding the grain for the local bakehouses. A small museum remembers this heritage.

Three miles away, in the town of Lutterworth, are Waitrose, Co-Op and Morrisons supermarkets. The area is also well served with a choice of private schools.

When it comes to connectivity, Ullesthorpe is blessed with fantastic commuter links to the M1, A5 and M6. The cities of Leicester and Coventry are within half-an-hour’s drive while those who prefer to “let the train take the strain” can do so via Narborough station, seven miles away, with hourly services to Leicester, Birmingham New Street and Stansted airport.
