2 bed Flat For Sale £1,275,000
Great Guildford Street, London SE1

Description
This fantastic one-bedroom conversion is situated on the third floor of an impressive and recently renovated Victorian warehouse on Great Guildford Street. The refined apartment has a triple aspect, with large original sash windows running along the south side of the building that bring copious amounts of light into the open-plan configuration. The unique and much-celebrated interior of the flat is the result of a collaboration between designer Ilse Crawford, Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen and 6a Architects.

The Designers

Ilse Crawford is a leading designer, academic and creative director, and the founding editor of Elle Decoration. Her highly lauded design company, Studioilse, has an extensive portfolio that includes the First and Business Class Lounge concept for Cathay Pacific, Ett Hem Hotel in Stockholm, Soho House New York and Cecconi’s restaurant in London. Her collaborator, Vincent Van Duysen, is a world-renowned Belgian architect and designer who works with domestic architecture and commercial spaces, as well as with furniture and decorative objects, and has designed for leading international manufacturers such as B&B Italia, Poliform and Swarovski.

The Tour

The large open space is cleverly divided into three zones – kitchen, living and bedroom – to create a sociable setting. The living area occupies the central position in the flat, with floor-to-ceiling cupboards along one side providing plenty of storage and cleverly concealing the front door and entrance to the WC. On the opposite wall, positioned in the gaps between large sash windows, floor-to-ceiling bookcases run the length of the room.

The bright kitchen has a central island decorated with Zellige tiles, a large recessed area for storage and a concealed range cooker. Exposed brickwork surrounds the kitchen windows and original double door. The door opens to reveal a Juliet balcony overlooking the quiet street.

The bedroom is separated from the main living space by another large bookcase which is currently set up as a backdrop to the bed. The impressive en suite bathroom is equipped with his-and-hers basins, a freestanding bath and a shower/steam room.

Lighting plays an important role in the space; where there are no walls, ceiling lights on dimmer switches are used to manage the different areas of the room, including or shutting off sections as desired. The decoration of the flat incorporates many of the building’s more industrial features, sensitively softening these to create a sense of harmony with the interior finishes.

The Area

Great Guildford Street is in the heart of Borough, an area now synonymous with an ever-growing international food scene, and an array of excellent restaurants and pubs. Borough Market is a short walk to the north and is home to Monmouth Coffee, Jame’s Lowe’s bakery and modern European restaurant Flor, Neal’s Yard Dairy and a vast array of independent stalls and traders. Slightly to the west is Bermondsey Street, known for some of London’s finest restaurants, pubs and cafes, including 40 Maltby Street, Casse-Croûte, WatchHouse Coffee and the renowned St. John Bakery. Tate Modern, Shakespeare’s Globe theatre, White Cube, and all the South Bank has to offer are within easy reach.

The apartment is located just four minutes from Borough station (Northern Line) and a short walk to London Bridge (Northern, Jubilee and National Rail) and Southwark (Jubilee). The City can be reached by foot in under 20 minutes.
