House For Sale £525,000
Craigrownie House, Shore Road, Cove, Helensburgh G84

Description
Wonderful B Listed family home with superb views.

Location

Craigrownie is a fine Category B Listed villa, set back from the waterside with views directly over the Firth of Clyde and Loch Long within the seaside conservation village of Cove.

Ferrying first began in the villages of Cove and Kilcreggan in 1840 when the use of steamers on the Clyde made it more accessible. The first houses were used only as summer homes, but as time went on, permanent occupation took place. As roads and vehicles developed, steamer traffic declined and one by one the piers closed. Today, Kilcreggan Pier remains the only traditional pier on the Clyde still in daily use. The area has a rich architectural heritage of Victorian mansions and castles. Famous architects such as Alexander "Greek" Thomson, William Leiper and John Honeyman were among many to build impressive homes for wealthy clients.

Today many such homes remain, with villagers commuting to Glasgow by road in around an hour, under normal driving conditions, or by ferry, with a journey time of around 15 minutes to Gourock
From where there is a direct train to Glasgow. Glasgow Airport can be reached in around 45 minutes under normal driving conditions. Kilcreggan has its own primary school with the local secondary at the nearest town of Helensburgh (16 miles). Lomond School in Helensburgh provides private schooling at primary and secondary level. Helensburgh is renowned as one of Scotland's most desirable towns with excellent local shopping, a swimming pool, golf course and the nearby Rhu Marina. Kilcreggan has a thriving social scene and first class facilities for younger sailors to learn.

Loch Lomond and the world-renowned Loch Lomond Golf Club is within 23 miles. Some of Britain's most testing sailing waters are to be found on Scotland's west coast.

Description

A gravelled driveway leads from Shore Road, with decorative gate posts thought to be an Alexander Greek Thomson design, leading to Craigrownie, a charming villa built around 1852 and extended around 1920. The house has been expertly upgraded by the present owners, while retaining the character expected of a house from this period.

Storm doors lead to the entrance vestibule, from here a door leads to the main reception hallway with a beautiful broad staircase leading to the first floor. Also within the hall are under stair storage cupboards, the electric meter cupboard and access to the ground floor rooms. The hallway has a further entrance door at the end.

To the right, double glass doors give access to the most impressive drawing room with two sets of box windows and magnificent aspects over the Firth of Clyde and beyond. There is an ornate open fireplace and cornicing. The striking dining room has dual aspect windows, fireplace with wood burning stove and two press cupboards. The breakfast kitchen with three windows to the side, features splendid contemporary modern fitted floor and wall units with hob with extractor above, double oven and plenty of space for a dining table. There is a door to the boiler room and rear outdoor access door. A useful laundry boot room, WC, and pantry complete the downstairs accommodation.

The upper floor is accessed from the staircase in the main hallway with balustrade and handrail leading to the first floor. Off the landing there are five bedrooms, one of which is presently used as a home office. All have wonderful views and one has an en suite WC. There is a family bathroom with roll top bath and panelled walls. The modern fitted shower room features double wash basins, a walk in shower and WC.
