Description

Coed Caffelleast is part of a wider 66 hectares area of the hillside above Barmouth designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest for a number of special features including the geology, historic workings, Atlantic oak woodlands and special wildlife interest. It offers, in particular, a rare example of wind pruned oak woodland with the trees shaped by the prevailing winds and moulded to the natural contours of the land.
It offers excellent habitat for a range of specialist woodland breeding birds including pied flycatcher and redstart as well as numerous other species of plants and animals.

The property lies between the 50 and 150 metre contours above Ffordd Mynach to the north of Barmouth. It borders the gardens of a number of properties in the Ffordd Mynach area and provides access to the popular foothills above which have excellent walking, extending into the Rhinogydd range of mountains.
