General Information

579 Scott Hall Road was previously occupied by Philip Naviasky from 1926 to 1991. Philip Naviasky was an English artist in Leeds. He specialised in water colour and oil painting. Born in Leeds to Polish-Jewish parents, he won a scholarship to the Leeds School of Fine Arts in 1907. 1912, he was the youngest ever student accepted into the Royal Academy School. He went on to win a Royal Exhibition award and to study at the Royal College of Art, after which he spent his career in Leeds as an artist and art teacher at Leeds City College of Art. He was well known for painting many of his fellow residents on Scott Hall Road and also for residents of Harewood House. A historic blue plaque is currently in progress for the property.
