Seller Insight

“It was the fantastic location which first attracted us to the property, ” say the owners of 33 Riverside, “with one of the best views in Cambridge of life on the river, yet within a few minutes’ walk or cycle of the centre of town. The house itself impressed us greatly too, with a spacious and practical open plan layout to the ground floor, and generously proportioned rooms throughout.”

Since moving in, the owners have made various improvements to the property. “We have added a second floor in the existing loft space with a spacious fourth bedroom, ” they say, “as well as an understairs toilet; an en-suite steam shower in the second bedroom; an all-seasons studio at the end of the garden; and a completely refitted main bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and underfloor heating. Our favourite room is the kitchen at the heart of the house. It is such an unusual layout, but works superbly, as it makes it so easy to interact with guests while preparing food, having a coffee or washing up. We love the easy relaxed way in which the house works as a home.”

Outside, the mature south facing garden is unusually large for such a central location. “It is pretty much double width as the house is on a slight bend, ” say the owners. “The wooden patio was recently re-floored and is completely covered by the flying awning, allowing us to use the outdoor space from Spring to Autumn, and enjoy watching the birds who come to feast in the garden. The studio at the end of the garden is highly insulated and remains comfortable even on the coldest of days.”

The situation of the property has much to offer too, set in the heart of picturesque Cambridge. “We take great pleasure in opening the curtains every morning to take in the view of the river with its wildlife and rowers, ” say the owners, “or walking out of the front door along the quiet road to reach either Midsummer or Stourbridge Common within a couple of minutes. It is easy to walk or cycle into the historic centre of town, mainly along dedicated paths across Midsummer Common. The Newmarket Road Tesco Superstore is a couple of minutes away by bicycle along a quiet street – none of the traffic for the store comes down our road. Our children all went to the excellent local Parkside Secondary School. They all now live a long way from Cambridge, and now that we have retired we are planning to move closer to them, otherwise we would not consider leaving such a wonderful home.”
