Amenities:
There are a number of popular attractions in E1, with something for everyone to enjoy. One of the main attractions is the aforementioned Brick Lane, a long stretch of road that offers a large range of good quality, very reasonably priced curry restaurants. More recently the area has also become known for its street art by artists such as Banksy and D*Face. A number of art exhibitions and trendy fashion shops have also sprung up nearby. Brick Lane also boasts its own market, which runs every Sunday from 8am till 2pm. The market sells just about everything from furniture to saris and is an excellent place to just browse or pick up a bargain.

Petticoat Lane Market takes place between Middlesex Street and Goulston Street every Sunday. It is best known for selling a variety of different clothes. Another market can be found on Whitechapel Road. Unlike the Brick Lane and Petticoat Lane Markets, it is open all week (except Sundays) from 8am till 6pm. It offers a diverse mix, including clothes, food and jewellery, and is particularly good for everyday household items.

The Blind Beggar is a famous historical pub, also on Whitechapel Road, which is still doing business today. It was the meeting place of various east end gangland mobs in the 1960s, including the Kray Twins, who drank there regularly.

There are a number of public transport options in the area, including Wapping Tube Station, which is located on Wapping High Street, Aldgate East Tube Station, on Whitechapel High Street, Aldgate Tube Station on Aldgate High Street and Stepney Green Tube Station on Mile End Road.

The Whitechapel Art Gallery, on Whitechapel Road, has an excellent collection of artwork for a gallery outside central London. It exhibits a range of work by local artists, as well as some of the more famous names. It also hosts a number of talks, workshops and other events. The Spitz Gallery on Commercial Street opened in 2002 and hosts exhibitions which are heavily dominated by international photojournalists. As such, it is one of the most important photographic galleries in London.
Other amenities in the area include the Genesis Cinema on Mile End Road and The Royal London Hospital located on Whitechapel Road.
