House For Sale £775,000
Lower Bockhampton, Dorchester, Dorset DT2

Description
Charming period cottage renovated to a particularly high standard close to the River Frome.

Location

The small hamlet of Bockhampton was thought to be the inspiration for the village of Mellstock in Thomas Hardy’s Under the Greenwood Tree.

Lower Bockhampton is a delightful village made up of mainly period houses and cottages, the village also has a hotel/restaurant.

South of the village lies the Frome Valley and its delightful water meadows through which the River Frome meanders from its source near Evershot to the sea in Poole Harbour.

There are many other places of interest nearby; including gardens, stately homes, picturesque villages and Dorset’s magnificent coastline.

Though surrounded by green fields and woodland, the village is close by to the County Town of Dorchester which provides a full range of shopping, leisure and commercial facilities, including supermarkets and leisure centre. Other local centres such as Poole, Bournemouth and Weymouth offer a broader range of facilities.

The World Heritage Site of Jurassic Coast is only a few miles away to the south.

Sport in the area includes numerous golf courses and sailing in the Olympic waters of Portland and Weymouth.

Communications are excellent with a main line railway station from Dorchester to London Waterloo and Bristol. Cross channel services are available at Poole and there are airports at Exeter, Southampton and Bournemouth. Despite the rural nature of the surrounding area, there is a very effective road network.
