Sellers insites Occupying a prime location on the edge of the delightful village of Stisted is Croft Cottage, a spacious and very attractive three-bedroom bungalow that has been beautifully remodelled by the current owners. "One of the things that drew us to the property when we came across it sixteen years ago was the light, " says Alan. "The garden faces south, and we back onto playing fields – which, incidentally, can never be built on – so there are no obstructions and therefore the light simply floods in throughout the day. We also fell for the overall look and feel of the bungalow, and the attractive position in this lovely little village. In short, for us it ticked just about every box."

"We didn't move here with the intention of making any major changes, but over time we've in fact made quite a few, which we feel have enhanced the property no end. We extended the master bedroom, removed all of the dark wood beams and redecorated throughout, but the biggest improvement was made to the kitchen. We took down the dividing wall between it and dining room and installed beautiful new kitchen units, all of which made a huge difference. That room is now a much larger and more sociable part of the house, and it also flows straight into the living room so the layout in those main living areas flows beautifully. The house is now even brighter, feels more spacious and if we're entertaining friends or family we can all be together without feeling on top of one another."

"The garden is yet another lovely feature of the property, and that too has been beautifully enhanced during our time here, " continues Alan. "We have a large patio, a decked seating area, pretty flowerbeds and a good-size lawn, so there are lots of different places where we can sit out, relax and entertain. Our grandchildren particularly love the fact that we have a gate at the back that gives them direct access onto the neighbouring playing fields. We can sit happily in the garden enjoying the sunshine while they play in that vast, but very safe space. It's been a huge plus."

Favourite room: "The large kitchen/diner is probably our favourite. We have our huge solid oak dining table in there so it's ideal for entertaining friends and family, and we can slide open the patio doors and create an almost seamless connection with our lovely garden."

Favourite aspect of the grounds or surrounding area: "Stisted is a real hidden gem and we've enjoyed every minute of our time here. The people are friendly, there's a fantastic sense of community and we're lucky enough to have a great local pub that also incorporates a superb deli/café. We're also very close to the golf club, the social side of which residents of the village can use for free, and we have all of this glorious countryside to enjoy. It's also just a short drive down to the coast at Mersea so living here we've been able to enjoy the best of everything."

Memorable event (if not another favourite room or unique feature): "We feel we've made the bungalow more conducive to modern living, but it still has a lovely cottagey feel. There are features such as the old wooden doors, exposed brickwork and a huge double-sided inglenook, which combine to give the property a real sense of character and charm. I'd say the balance between old and new is perfect."

What they'll miss most / why they are leaving: "This has been a wonderful place to call home, and we both feel very fortunate to have found it all those years ago, however the time has come for us to downsize, " says Alan. "We'll miss everything: The light and space and comfortable feel of the bungalow, our beautiful garden, the superb village location, the community… It's a very special place and we're going to be sad to leave."
