Description

To live in Yew Tree Farmhouse is to be enveloped in history. The ancient building is believed to date from the early 16th Cenutry and has borne witness to many important events, including the unsuccessful siege of Gloucester by King Charles I in 1643. Rescued from a parlous state in 1996, the vendors spent 4 years carefully and sympathetically restoring the old building, incorporating significant insulation to reduce the running costs and underfloor heating powered by a wood pellet boiler. The more recent additon of a significant extension provides a light and spacious garden room/home office, with views towards the Cotswold escarpment. The result is a property steeped in character, true to its origins, whilst adapted for 21st Century living. The remaining accommodation comprises an entrance hall, cloakroom/shower room, well fitted kitchen (space for breakfast table) and two further welcoming reception rooms. Upstairs there are four bedrooms (two linked), a family bathroom with shower cubicle and a utility. Outside, the level and well stocked garden wraps around the property, which is approached by a private driveway. There is ample room and planning permission in place for a double garage.

Directions

From our Stroud Office proceed north on the A46 and branch left at Pitchcombe onto the A4173 for Gloucester. Pass through the village of Edge and on descending the escarpment on the far side, through Brookthorpe and over the motorway, Whaddon is approximately one mile beyond Brookthorpe. Pass Pound Farm on your right and the turning into Whaddon on your left and take the second left across Whaddon Green where Yew Tree Farm can then be found in front of you.

Location

Yew Tree Farmhouse is located in the hamlet of Whaddon, conveniently close to Gloucester and Stroud, between Junction 11a (Cheltenham) and Junction 12 (Gloucester) of the M5 motorway, just under the Cotswold escarpment. The advantage of this location is therefore obvious. It is on the edge of glorious countryside but also a short drive from all the amenities of Gloucester, a city very much on an upward trajectory, benefiting from significant re-development and an enhanced profile. The area has excellent secondary schools in both the state and private sector, including two grammar schools in Stroud and several excellent grammar schools in Gloucester plus Wycliffe College in Stonehouse. London is within 2 hours drive and there are regular trains into Paddington (circa 90 minutes) from Stroud Station. Whaddon has a popular Farm Shop selling all manner of fresh produce and there is a choice of local supermarkets. There is much for the young to enjoy, including lovely local walks, challenging golf course on the Beacon at nearby Painswick, Premier division rugby at Gloucester and National Hunt racing at Cheltenham.
