Description

Aptly named, Eagle Cottage with its panoramic views, appears to soar over the Woodchester Valley with uninterrupted views to Selsley Common and beyond the Severn to the Brecon Beacons. Skillfully designed to allow maximum light into the property, Eagle Cottage is believed to have occupied its site for over 200 years. The vendors have skillfully and sympathetically opened up the ground floor to create a great space for entertaining, while not compromising the property's period charm. The aspect is westerly with three reception rooms across the front with access to a broad c.40sqm sun terrace, whilst still being cosy in the winter months, with a spectacular 'suspended' circular glassed wood burning stove, designed by Focus at its heart. The kitchen/breakfast room is well appointed with solid oak and glass worktops and cleverly designed storage and offers access to a separate utility room and ground floor cloakroom. Upstairs, the master and guest bedrooms have en-suite shower rooms and there are two further bedrooms and a bathroom. The private driveway is gated with parking for up to three cars and is flanked by hedging and seasonal shrubs, with the majority of the gardens located at the rear. Terraced on three levels, the garden has been carefully landscaped with seating areas, outbuildings, vegetable parterres and a pedestrian gate with access to the lane on the Common.

Location

Little London is a small hamlet in an elevated position on the western fringe of Rodborough Common 'an area of outstanding natury beauty', a tremendous expanse of 650 acres of National Trust land, free for anyone to enjoy. With minimal passing traffic this is an idyllic location, rural but not isolated, within a few minutes drive of Stroud. Recently recognised as the best place to live by The Sunday Times, Stroud has much to offer. Trains into London Paddington take approximately 90 minutes from Stroud mainline station and there is a major Waitrose, plus three other supermarkets, an award winning Saturday Farmers' Market, multiplex Cinema, Leisure Centre and excellent schools including both boys and girls grammars. In addition, the M5 motorway is easily accessible. The local scenery is characterised by dramatic wooded valleys in contrast to the more rolling farmland to the east, interspersed with a network of public footpaths. The local lanes are popular with cyclists and there are three challenging golf courses at nearby Minchinhampton.

Directions

On leaving our Stroud office, take the A46 in the Nailsworth direction and after a short distance, take the first left up Rodborough Hill. Immediately after the cattle grid in front of Rodborough Fort, bear right signposted to Little London. Continue along this single track lane for half a mile and on reaching the staggered crossroads, turn sharp right above the cattle grid and Eagle Cottage is at the bottom of the no through lane. We suggest viewers park on the single track lane above the property for viewings and walk through the rear garden gate signposted Eagle Cottage, or down the lane to the front of the house.
