The name of ‘Perrot’ is an acknowledgement to Sir John Perrot who was the son of Mary Berkeley- Lady in waiting(from Berkeley Castle family to Catherine Of Argon (Henry VIIIs’ first wife) and is noted/or not as an illegitimate son of Henry VIII. He is a figure of unusual power and influence in Tudor Britain and Ireland. This name was added in 2008 when a descendant of the Perrot family took ownership of the property.
Sir John Perrot served as Lord Deputy to Queen Elizabeth I of England during the Tudor conquest of Ireland. He was convicted of treason, but was not put to death in the Tower of London as Queen Elizabeth 1 refused to sign his death warrant. He still died and was buried in the Tower of London. The Perrot family estate was in Southern Wales – Carfew/Roche/Laugharne Castles. After the conviction of treason of Sir John his estate went back to the crown . After approx. 3 years after Sir Johns' death, the Crown gave back a reduced estate to the Perrot family (Roche Castle reputedly).
