Description

Beaufort Lodge is a beautiful Grade II listed house dating from 1790-1810. The property was reported to be the Duke of Beaufort's gambling house. The original property was split into two after World War II when the new entrance and portico were added to the rear of the house, creating Beaufort Lodge. The clock face on the house was added when the house was converted and apparently came from a bombed church in Bristol.

The walled garden was the original kitchen garden and the box hedging by the greenhouse is the last remaining part of a box hedge maze from the formal gardens of the original Beaufort House. After retiring, the previous owners, Colonel and Mrs Hannay, started a plant nursery called Hannays of Bath at Sydney Wharf. The nursery specialised in rare plants, many of which were collected from around the world. They showed at Chelsea Flower Show and supplied plants to Buckingham Palace. Many of the plants in the garden today came from the nursery.

Beaufort Lodge is double fronted and has generous and versatile accommodation over three floors. The property is entered into through a reception hallway with sitting room to the left. The kitchen/ dining room is off the hall to the right and has access to the utility room (which is a later addition) and access to the garden.

On the first floor is a magnificent drawing room as well as the principal bedroom with en suite bathroom.

On the upper floor are three further bedrooms and a bathroom.

Externally
The walled gardens and grounds of Beaufort Lodge are of particular note and are to the front and side of the property. There are lawned areas surrounded by beautiful flower beds, a vegetable garden and greenhouse. There is driveway parking and a garage.

Square Footage: 2132 sq ft
