Dating back to the 1400's Sale Mill was a historical Watermill that used the power of the River Beane to grind corn. In the late 15th century it was converted into a paper mill by an entrepreneur called John Tate. As far as is known, this was the first paper mill in the country. A blue plaque on the building commemorates the historical work of Mr Tate. This is one of only 900 blue plaques in England. The papermill went out of production around 1500, and the facility was used for grinding corn again. The mill was destroyed by fire in 1890 and was rebuilt. In 1988, Sele Mill was converted into a selection of luxurious apartments which can be seen today.
