The town attracts many visitors throughout the year to visit Hugh Millers cottage which is on Church Street. During the summer months a car ferry operates between Cromarty and Nigg Bay on the North shore of the Firth. The famous Soutars to the opening into the Cromarty Firth is nearby and oil rigs being towed into and out of the the Firth to the North sea oil fields is a common sight, as well as oil tankers coming to load up at the Nigg Oil Terminal, and cruise ships visiting Invergordon further along the Firth on the North shore. Cromarty has a selection of shops, post office, hotels, commercial harbour and a local primary school, whilst secondary education is at the highly rated Fortrose (truncated)
