Situation
The River Findhorn is one of the longest rivers in Scotland and flows some 65 miles north east from its source in the heart of the Monadh Liath mountains to Findhorn Bay where it meets the Moray Firth. The River Findhorn provides excellent salmon and trout fishing and is popular with anglers from all over the world.
Pollochaig Fishings are situated at the head of the dramatic ‘Streens’ stretch of the River Findhorn where it cuts its way through the hills from its source in the Highlands and Strathdearn, winding towards Drynachan, Dulsie Bridge, before reaching its lower stretches in Moray. This section of the river is characterised by steep sided wooded slopes and attractive open moorland.
Local services including a convenience store and community run café are available in the village of Tomatin, 15 minutes to the south west of Pollochaig. The city of Inverness, the commercial capital of the Highland region is located 20 minutes to the north and provides a comprehensive range of shops and services. The fishings extend to approximately 1.1 miles on the left bank and 2 miles on the right bank of the River Findhorn at Ruthven, Tomatin, with an interesting mix of attractive pools and riffles. Pollochaig is set in a very attractive, peaceful location. Perhaps unusually for salmon rivers in this part of the Highlands, the Findorn is unaffected by hydro schemes and exhibits entirely natural flow conditions. This provides the opportunity for interesting and varied fishing. The water is relatively fast flowing, providing ideal fly-fishing conditions. The fishings will appeal to anglers who value spending time in a semi-natural setting and enjoy challenging and dynamic fishing.
Whilst there is a good chance to catch early spring running salmon as they head to the headwaters of the Findhorn catchment, the beat comes into its own from mid-summer onwards, as the summer salmon and grilse make their way up above the gorge at Glenferness.

Access
The fishings can be reached via a minor public road which terminates at Ruthven. From the end of the public road, the fishings can be accessed on foot along a private estate track to the top of the beat which is reached in just under 1 mile. Thereafter the right bank has traditionally been accessed via a cable bridge (the ‘bucket bridge’) located at Shennachie.
It is understood that there are no formal rights in place for the use of this bridge and an alternative access to the right bank could be possible from the north, along private tracks from Drynachan via Ballachrochin, subject to the appropriate rights being sought. Alternatively, the river can be readilywaded across at normal water levels.
