House For Sale £2,100,000
Vale Road, Bickley, Bromley BR1

Description
'Burnt Oak's' architect was Charles Quenell. He designed houses in Hampstead and Bickley; all have an understated handsomeness to them that is hard to replicate in contemporary houses. It offers extensive accommodation including six bedrooms, three bathrooms, four reception rooms and a detached coach house including a games room, gymnasium, kitchenette and ancillary rooms.

The owners have kindly provided the following thoughts about their amazing home.

"As soon as we saw the house we knew we wanted to live here. From an artist's perspective, its position and light is perfect. High ceilings, big windows, perfect atmosphere. The sun rises to the front and swings around and over the house ending at the sofa area in the back garden.

The house is set up high in an imposing position so once inside it feels very private. It overlooks but is not overlooked. The beautiful stone steps lead up to the large front door which opens into a light filled hallway exemplifying the character which continues throughout.

Of historical interest Field Marshall Montgomery stayed here for a few months after the war. The initials carved in the bricks are dated way back into the 1920s. It's early Edwardian. Built in 1903 and the character of that era is depicted by the many arches featured throughout.

The gardens are large and beautiful to watch the seasons come and go, especially through the very grand landing window.

Whilst the house has been considerably improved there is room for further enhancement. It's not listed, there are no TPO's and it's not in a conservation area. The self-contained coach house adds an extra dimension. Originally designed as a double garage with games room above it has been converted to also incorporate a gymnasium. There is existing planning permission for a two storey side extension.

The northern side of the house, which is the coldest and receives the harshest weather is attached and therefore maintenance free. The house is inherently warm and yet naturally cool during the summer. All the fireplaces on the ground floor are swept and are either real or gas. There are heated floors in three bathrooms, the kitchen and upstairs in the coach house.

Most of our neighbours have lived here for many years. Burnt Oak is set on the southern side of this lovely road and is only an 8 minute walk to the station. Bickley Park estate is very well connected from a security and support perspective. There is a very friendly and kind vibe to the area

Over the years 'Burnt Oak' has been well maintained and sympathetically cared for. Now it's time to open a new chapter."

As for location, the house is tucked away yet close to local shops at lower Camden and Chislehurst station is only 0.3 miles away. The highly regarded Bullers Wood School for girls and boys is within 1 mile.
