"No 6 has been such a reassuring and comforting house to us over the past 33 years! We have absolutely loved living here, we’ve raised three children and it has always been a very happy home.

As an old Victorian house, we have had the pleasure of restoring it to former glory and it has always managed to expand to fit the ever-growing crowds of friends and family, but always remained our cosy home.

We are sad to leave but the time has come for us to move out of London – if we could take the house with us, we would!

Keeping the Victorian integrity has always been important to us. We were so lucky that the original full height wooden doors between the front rooms were in situ when we moved in, as was the huge marble fireplace. We had it cleaned and restored, and it is now such an eye-catching feature of the room. Also the front and middle bedrooms still have their original Victorian cast iron fireplaces.

We have made many sympathetic changes; extended into the loft, enlarged the kitchen and built numerous cupboards, bookshelves and wardrobes.

Over the years we were often intrigued when we found possessions in the loft or garden and we’ve done research into everyone who has lived at No 6 since it was built in 1897/98.

Notably the Bell family lived here for 63 years from 1924 and the head of the family, Thomas William Bell, worked as a Ticket Collector at Charlton Junction (Charlton Station). Our 33 years doesn’t match the Bell family but it is testament to the importance we’ve placed in this home.

The garden acts as another room for us. It is well stocked with many established plants, and the old pear tree dates back to a time when the area around Nadine Street was mainly orchards. Not being overlooked is fantastic and being south facing the sun comes round so you can catch it all day, and in the evening when it is setting you can sit by the pond and catch the final rays."
