Stratton House
This property was built for the Earl of Shaftesbury in the late 1880’s, by Crickmay architects, a renowned local firm from Weymouth. No expense was spared and this is evidenced by the extensive use of detailed brickwork and ashlar stone in the property frontage. You cannot help but to notice, the carved detail surrounding the main entrance doors however the detail is extensive and can be seen above many of the windows.
Entry to the building is gained through the heavy double doors, into the impressive foyer, from which an extravagant staircase rises. The sympathetic conversion of this Georgian building in 2016 has retained a host of original features including the staircase, also impressive fireplaces, intricately carved cornices, shutters and beautifully decorated balustrades. Many of the interior panels of the communal area have beautifully hand painted decorations; believed to have been added later, possibly during the 1940’s.
