So, we have been delighted to not only bring it back to its former glory but also add the extension to make it into a spacious and characterful family home. Recently we have also replaced the catslide roof thatch and installed gas central heating. We have loved living here but feel it is time to move nearer our family on the mainland.
It is wonderful for wildlife and we even have red squirrels in the garden. We are on the outskirts of Freshwater at the foot of Tennyson Down, off the old Alum Bay Road and surrounded by protected National Trust land. So, there are excellent places to go for country and seaside walks from Freshwater Bay to Alum Bay and, if you are interested in nature, there are some amazing species of wildlife including rare butterflies, skylarks and kestrels as well as unusual plants. Norton and Freshwater are charming villages and it is less than four miles to the historic town of Yarmouth that sits at the mouth of the River Yar and includes a large marina and a 16th century castle as well as one of the main ferry services to the mainland.
