We asked the vendors to provide some background on the property and the things they have enjoyed whilst living there -

"We moved into Mansfield Cottage with our family of 2 young children and a baby over 25 years ago. Now we have retired and are proud grandparents, it is time for a new adventure. Living here we have enjoyed this little bit of countryside in the suburbs that mixes the convenience of all the modern facilities with a large tree lined garden that is full of birdsong. The house and garden are ideal for entertaining and the double patio doors opening onto a sheltered patio connect it into one space in the summer. We have also thoroughly enjoyed the privilege of owning such a distinctive house with so much history attached. The name Mansfield Cottage is the original name of the property and shows the connection to the family who originally built it in the middle of their farmland centred on Mansfield Rd. Even today the garden boundaries follow the slight diagonal line of the fields and orchards.
The historical centre of Yardley with its 1000 year old church, a working blacksmith’s forge and large park is just 700 metres along the road. In the other direction is the commercial centre of the Swan shopping centre and supermarkets and the 50 acre Oaklands park. Transport links are excellent with plentiful bus routes nearby and Railway stations for both the Solihull line, and the International line within approx 1.5 miles. The frontage of the house is unaltered from how it looked when it was built in the Georgian period in 1782. The house still retains many original features. The front hardwood double glazed windows are a copy of the originals (the rear of the house are uPVC). The front garden provides off road parking for up to 3 cars, plus 1 more in the garage. The spacious garage/workshop was originally a coach house and stable, and still has the horse manger and tethering ring. The smaller reception room leads to a cellar and was originally the kitchen. The brick arch to the left of the fireplace contained the cooking range; on the right are still meat hooks fixed to the ceiling. In Victorian times the kitchen was moved to the rear of the house and cupboards were built in the 2 alcoves and a slate faux marble fireplace installed (this original is still in place). Outside the kitchen door is a small courtyard which gives access to the garage/workshop, 2 separate toolrooms, an outside toilet, and the utility room with fitted cupboards and worksurfaces with all the connections for laundry appliances expected for modern living."
