House For Sale £1,050,000
Diamond House, St Philip Street, London SW8

Description
Diamond House is a fantastic two-bedroom contemporary home in Battersea designed by Undercurrent Architects. Ingeniously configured on a triangular plot a short walk from Queenstown Road station, the house makes clever use of light, flow and its outdoor space to establish a truly modern approach to living. It takes its name from the Diamond Conservation Area, which it sits at the tip of.

The Architect

Undercurrent Architects are an award-winning architectural practice headed by Didier Ryan. Renowned for their work on projects in challenging and constrained sites around the world, the practice received international acclaim in 2018 for Archway Studios, a home nestled beneath a railway arch in south London.

The Tour

The house presents an inconspicuous façade of London stock brick, rising up along the corner of its terrace; to the passerby, it appears to blend seamlessly with its neighbours. The first floor is clad in beautiful wood louvres and offers a clue to the contemporary composition of the interior.

Access is gained via a front door set back within the wall. Entrance is to a small lobby area, which opens to reveal a bright, spacious set of open-plan living spaces where ceramic tiles run underfoot. The triangular nature of the plan draws the eye naturally towards the kitchen, which is configured along the northern aspect. It has hardwood worktops, a Smeg oven and hob, a Bosch dishwasher, a fully integrated fridge/freezer and a breakfast bar. The current owners have arranged a dining area opposite, with beautiful views out of the glazed doors onto the courtyard garden.

The remainder of the ground floor plan is taken up with a large en suite double bedroom, which has tranquil garden views through a large picture window. A window seat with plenty of built-in storage space sits below; there is also a walk-in dressing room. The en suite has a full-size bath and shower lined with grey slate tiles and a skylight overhead. There is also a guest WC on this floor, positioned beneath the staircase. A long skylight runs above the stair, allowing in natural light that flows across the ground floor thanks to a glass balustrade.

The first floor contains the main en suite double bedroom, arguably the most impressive space in the house. It capitalises on its elevated position to draw in wonderful levels of natural light, which enters via glazed doors to a private roof terrace. A full en suite bathroom occupies the corner of the plan, while a walk-in dressing area sits behind the bedroom.

Outdoor Space

The house has a beautiful paved courtyard garden lined with mature plants and shrubs, with a mature silver birch tree at its centre. This is a tranquil space, offering a natural extension of the internal plan in the warmer months. Glazed doors to the kitchen and dining room make the garden a perfect space for entertaining; clever low-level planting frames the ground floor bedroom’s picture window.

A terrace lies off the main bedroom, offering a private outdoor space positioned above the garden. There is ample room on the terrace for seating and beautiful treetop views.

The Area

Diamond House is very well located on a peaceful street that runs parallel to the green spaces of Larkhall Park. Clapham Common, Battersea Park, Brixton and the Thames River are all within walking distance. Stockwell itself has a very good selection of pubs, notably the Canton Arms and nearby Brunswick House. The extensive redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and Nine Elms has created a new and vibrant neighbourhood with an influx of shops and restaurants with outdoor seating, including Tapas Brindisa and Tonkotsu. Apple are due to open their European HQ in the Power Station by the end of 2021.

Queenstown Road station is a short walk away (South Western services). Battersea Power Station underground (Northern Line) recently opened and provides access to the West End in around 15 minutes. Wandsworth Road (Overground) and Clapham Common (Northern Line) stations are both nearby. There are a number of buses that run into central London along Clapham Road.
