We moved into the house just one day before I gave birth to our son. We were new to the area and, as you can imagine, there was a lot to learn and new places to enjoy. Our daughter also started school for the first time three days after that so life was incredibly hectic.
The house had always felt like home though - even before we knew we’d been the lucky purchaser. We can’t remember the amount of times we would take a drive over here, pull up on the drive (the house was newly refurbished and empty) and just sit and be. We were full of excitement at what this incredible family home would be like for us and our children to live and make memories in. Little did we know we would be here for over fourteen years!
One of many amazing things about the house is that it is so flexible. The dining room used to be the family room, the music room used to be the snug. There are two master bedrooms both of which are wonderfully generous in size, each with their own en suite. We have thoroughly enjoyed how the house has been able to adapt to our needs over the past fourteen years. As our needs grew for more working space we were also able to change the internal garages into office and gym space without having to compromise anything. The carriage driveway allowed us plenty of room to erect the barn style storage which even has a first floor.
Another thing we have really enjoyed, and will miss, is how lovely the house feels in Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter. The French doors running the main length of the back of the property are always open on dry days, the shutters keeping pesky flies out and also the blaring midday sun’s rays if required in the height of Summer. In the colder months, despite its size, the house feels cosy and warm and the wood burner radiates heat throughout despite being in just one room. Everyone agrees it’s a picture perfect Christmas house and we have managed to have eight Christmas trees in various rooms!
Everyone who visits never fails to comment on how welcoming and ‘happy’ the house feels. This was exactly the feeling we got when we first went through the front door and, after over 14 years, still get every time we come home.
Our house has been a happy house, full of love and amazing memories and all of us will absolutely miss it. Spencers Wood has treated us so well and has been convenient for our growing family needs - first with public transport into Reading and also being a short drive to the M4. Cross rail will make a huge difference to the area meaning London is even closer on the doorstep than before. The village has a wonderful inclusive feel and there are a multitude of events always on offer - Easter egg hunts, Scarecrow trails, best dressed Christmas house, not to mention the regular monthly farmer’s market and weekly Grimsby Fish man! The village social media activity is also incredibly useful and very well managed and everyone on it and within the village is so happy to help out.

From knowing the area and property well myself as per my earlier comment this is arguably one of, if not the nicest house on Hyde End Road.
