Vendor Interview

Set in well over one and a half acres of land and situated in a glorious location on the rural fringes of Redditch is Orchard House, a large and beautifully presented five-bedroom detached family home, which was designed and built by the current owners in 1990. “Back in the late 1980s I was very young and ambitious, and it was my dream to build my own house, ” says David. “One day I took myself off to an auction and this large piece of land came up for sale, and it was at that point that everything fell into place. My wife and I put our hearts and souls into creating the property – which took around a decade to complete – and it was well worth it because it really has been the most wonderful family home.”

“Externally it has the look of a really attractive period farmhouse – in fact, most of the people who see it can’t believe it was built in the 90’s – and therefore it sits nicely within these semi-rural surroundings, and inside we’ve continued with that theme, adding reclaimed beams, beautiful brick fireplaces and a gorgeous farmhouse kitchen, so it has a huge amount of character and charm. However, it also has all the benefits of a modern home so it’s very warm and welcoming, all the rooms boast good proportions and the layout flows incredibly well so it’s great for day-to-day family life and superb for entertaining. In my opinion it’s perfect in every way and if it wasn’t for the fact that it’s simply too big for us now, we wouldn’t dream of moving anywhere else.”

“The house sits in one and half acres of land in an elevated position so the views out across our land and the countryside beyond are just magnificent – on a clear day we can see all the way to the Brecon Beacons, ” continues David. “It’s very peaceful and private, and the gardens have been designed with family time and alfresco entertaining in mind so there are lots of lovely places where we can sit out and relax, and it was an idyllic environment for our children to grow up in. We also have stables and paddocks, so we’ve been able to keep horses, and we have an orchard that we planted many years ago, which has matured nicely so the landscape is quite varied. It’s a real slice of paradise, so much so that it’s often hard to believe we’re just a hop, skip and a jump from a bustling town centre.”

“The back door leads straight into our huge farmhouse kitchen, and that is without doubt the beating heart of our home. It’s where we’ll welcome guests, sit around the table putting the world to rights, and it’s also where we enjoy cosy family meals.”

“Everything we need is just a stone’s throw away in the centre of town, however, what we love most about the location is the feeling of total and utter peace and privacy. We also love the fact that we can step out of the front door and walk for miles through beautiful countryside, and it’s an absolute paradise for riding as there’s an array of bridle paths right on our doorstep.”

“Within the grounds we have a large double garage with an annex above, which was a playroom for the children when they were young and then became a teenagers’ hangout space. And if the new owners didn’t want to keep horses, we’ve always thought that the stables would be ripe for conversion into yet more accommodation – subject to gaining the correct planning permission, of course.”

“It’s going to be such a wrench to leave this house, ” says David. “It’s filled with nothing but incredibly happy memories of the children growing up and wonderful times spent with family and friends. However, we feel the time is right for a new family to fill it and enjoy living here, and i’ve absolutely no doubt that they will.”
