The Cleveleys Cottage Exhibition opened on 21 July 1906 and was a three month display ‘designed to encourage and display the latest ideas in house design and construction’.
The houses were designed to be sold and occupied once the event drew to a close and one of the main conditions of the competition was that the designers/builders should be able to build more like them at the same prices.
In total, including 7 West Drive, 44 properties were built for the event, in a mixture of styles.
If you know where to look, a lot of it is still visible today, with the entrance starting from the tram stop at the end of West Drive and including numerous houses on Stockdove Way and Whiteside Way.
