The Village, Amies Street, London SW11

Description
Description

Volume, space, light and plenty of character: It's hard to see why you wouldn't want to live in this utterly charming conversion of a former school in Battersea, South West London.

The Village is something of a local landmark building whose deep red and brown brickwork and huge windows are instantly recognisable. A high brick wall surrounds a mix of residents parking bays and green spaces that are flanked by the two main residential buildings that greet you as you enter through the imposing gated entrance. Within these walls, along with your private allocated parking space is a communal garden area for residents to enjoy that's nicely shielded from view.

This third floor loft of just under 900 sq ft is reached via a set of stairs in the far corner of the main building. The recently redecorated communal stairwell with its whitewashed brickwork leads up to the apartment's entrance door, from where its own internal staircase carries you up to a landing. To the right, the well-proportioned kitchen sits across the landing from the main living area and is equipped with the usual array of built-in appliances. To your left, a door opens up through to a dramatic living space with vaulted, double-height ceilings and windows either side either side of the room, period features and rich, dark wood flooring. Another internal staircase leads up to a mezzanine double bedroom which surveys the living space below. On the other side of the bedroom, the large internal bathroom with separate shower cubicle is uniquely positioned a few steps down via a hidden door from the bedroom. On a practical note, there's a very generous loft storage area above the bedroom able to swallow up boxes, suitcases etc.

Head out from the tree lined Amies Street and a world of cafe culture is on the doorstep. The Social Pantry and Parisienne Cafe are the closest on Lavender Hill and just a few mins on foot, but you can't really walk for too long in any direction before you discover new and exciting places to take a break. It's the same with bars and restaurants: There's a hugely diverse mix of cuisines on offer with Asian fusion, Italian and Indian all featuring heavily and within easy reach.

For the energetic, Clapham Common is something of a mecca for runners and it's only a few mins' jog away. There's also Battersea Park for those looking for a more mindful green space to park yourself - a pleasant walk north from the apartment.

Clapham Junction is closeby. From here, Southern and South Western Railway operate services to Waterloo and Victoria Stations, while the Overground carries you across London to Stratford and Dalston Junction. Heading out of town, the Southern coastal towns of Portsmouth, Southsea and Littlehampton are less than two hours, and there are fast trains to Gatwick and Brighton.
