House For Sale £650,000
Eythorne Road, Shepherdswell, Dover, Kent CT15

Description
Position, potential and period features, including high ceilings, dado rails and fireplaces, are the epithets to describe this fascinating late Victorian detached family home. It is set well back from the road in an elevated position with steps up to the tree covered front garden. Even before you walk into the house, the Palladian style pillars at the entrance, together with the high chimney stack and roofline finials, give the property an impressive character. Once through the outer porch the first thing you notice is the original Pugin style tiled floor in the hall together with dado rails and the lovely period staircase to the first floor.

There is a double sized lounge and snug with an attractive bespoke carved fireplace, parquet flooring, a bay window overlooking the front garden and access to the charming hexagonal shaped conservatory to the rear. For those more formal occasions and family celebrations the delightful dual aspect dining room, with its large box bay window and an attractive fireplace, is ideal. The well-proportioned kitchen/breakfast room currently includes country style units and a larder cupboard as well as a double oven and gas hob. If you are looking for inter-generational accommodation the rear extension could be useful. Located beyond the kitchen it consists of a very large sitting/dining room with a fascinating double brick curved end wall, steps up to a separate entrance leading to a path to the gate, as well as floor to ceiling side windows and French doors to a courtyard style garden area, providing plenty of natural light. There is also a separate kitchen with a large, walk-in pantry but this area could always be converted into a utility room for the whole property. The ground floor also includes a cloakroom and a useful understairs cupboard while upstairs there are four double bedrooms, a very large Jack and Jill bathroom with a raised corner bath, separate shower and twin basins as well as a separate cloakroom. The attractive galleried landing is large enough for a computer desk and chair under the window and also includes a pull-down ladder access to the top floor play/games room or office with its Velux windows. This area could always be converted to provide additional accommodation.

What the Owner says:
We bought this house 38 years ago and have loved living here over the years. The position is wonderful and we are looking forward to staying in the area as we have built a smaller house nearby that we will be moving into as we feel it is time to downsize. The village is delightful with its historic church, very old country pub as well as a Co-op mini supermarket and a mainline station with direct trains to Dover and London, while trains from nearby Dover Priory can whisk you to London in about an hour. We are very central as you can be in Canterbury for shopping in a little over 20 minutes and Dover is nearby for trips to the Continent. You will also find a good primary school and the charming and historic East Kent Railway run by a local preservation society. For sporting enthusiasts the village is home to the 'Shepherdswell Spartans' Football Club as well as a cricket team. There are also excellent shopping facilities in and around nearby Whitfield including a large Tesco, B&Q, a B&M value store and Screwfix as well as doctors, hairdressers, pubs and restaurants. Golfers can play at Broome Park, Walmer and Kingsdown clubs or go slightly further afield to the championship courses at Sandwich while boating aficionados can join the Downs Sailing Club and if motor racing is your interest you can always visit the Lydden racing circuit. There are also excellent secondary state and junior and senior private schools in Dover, Sandwich and Canterbury.
