House For Sale £625,000
Foreland Road, Bembridge, Isle Of Wight PO35

Description
This veritable Tardis of a beautifully maintained late Victorian, three storey property in the heart of Bembridge is delightful. Set back from the road it has instant kerb appeal the minute you see the cream exterior, bay windows, barge boards, roof finial and very attractive period front door. However, it is once you step over the threshold that you begin to realise the spaciousness of the charming house.

Although it has been completely modernised by the owners over the years it still retains many period features that give it so much character including sash windows and wood panelled doors. These features are immediately apparent as you walk into the hall with its dado rail and original staircase and in the formal dining room that has a delightful cast iron fireplace and fitted cupboards as well as French doors to the terrace. While the focus in the elegant lounge is the large bay window providing plenty of natural light and the very impressive cast iron fireplace with inset tiling.

Probably the most important ‘hub of the household' is the contemporary, dual aspect family space that includes a seating and dining area with an inset log burning stove and an array of attractive dark blue kitchen units that were only installed about a year ago. These incorporate an integral fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer as well as a range cooker.

Off the galleried landing on the first floor there are two contemporary bathrooms including one with an attractive stand-alone slipper bath as well as three double bedrooms that all have original cast iron fireplaces. On the second floor you will find a long loft room that could be adapted as an office or playroom as well as two good sized bedrooms with hand basins. This whole area would make an excellent ‘hideaway' for teenagers wanting a bit of private space.

As well as the terrace adjacent to the property, the large garden is mainly laid to lawn flanked by fencing and shrub borders. However, at the end of the garden is a charming decked patio where you can catch the afternoon sun and a lovely pale blue building. This was built by Lushingtons, a well-respected outdoor room designer. Part of it is currently a useful man cave/workshop and the rest could be a summerhouse or an outdoor office.

What the Owner says:
We bought this house some 33 years ago and it has been a wonderful home to bring up our children. Although it will be a great wrench to leave here, we feel it is now time for us to downsize and move back to the mainland and be nearer our family.

We love Bembridge which is a charming seaside village and, in fact, it is claimed to be the largest village in England. It stretches around most of the Eastern tip of the island and includes a harbour, pier, a marina, three beaches and an airport and engenders a friendly atmosphere with independent shops, hairdressers and beauty salons, cafes and restaurants. The white cliffs of Culver Down are home to a variety of wildlife and is just the place to go exploring and the surrounding countryside provides wonderful places for cycling and walking. Indeed, you can walk around Bembridge Down where you will find the unrestored Victorian Bembridge Fort.
