Description
Grade II Listed country home in sought-after conservation village.

Description
Greenhill is a really handsome detached period house with its three hipped dormer windows and is situated in this sought after village.

Of rendered elevations beneath a peg tiled roof, the early 18th Century property is thought to have been divided into two cottages in the 19th century and retains many fine features of its period. Listed Grade II as being of historic and architectural interest, some areas of note include exposed timbers and Inglenook fireplaces, a bread oven and panelling, exposed floorboards and quite spectacular views.

The front door with its dentilled detailed pediment is now rarely used in favour of the rather more convenient rear entrance and part glazed door to the staircase hall with its brick flooring and access to the majority of the ground floor rooms.

The three main reception spaces span the front and include an impressive panelled dining room, with fitted corner cupboard and woodburner within a stripped wooden fire surround and open studwork; the spacious drawing room with brick flooring, an Inglenook fireplace at each end one retaining the bread oven, exposed timbers; and the snug – which, we understand, used to be open to the drawing room but has for many years been partitioned off to create a delightful snug/TV room at the far end of the house which connects with the adjacent kitchen to the rear of the house. Here there is brick flooring and a wide chimney breast with bressumer housing the (calor gas fired) four oven Aga. There are a range of fitted cupboards, a built in dishwasher and windows overlooking the terrace and gardens. A part glazed door leads to the Utility/boot room with a calor gas fired boiler, plumbing and space for a washing machine, dryer, water softener and a butler sink. A cloaks/shower room approached from the hall completes the ground floor accommodation.

On the first floor the landing with its exposed wooden flooring and brick chimney breast and former fireplace lead to the three double bedrooms and family bathroom with roll-top bath - all enjoying the distant views to the front, the larger of the three having a dressing area and wardrobe. The bedroom benefits from plumbing, as we gather it used to feature a wash basin. The second floor is approached from the landing beside the chimney breast via a wooden staircase and here there are two further bedrooms – the larger one could be a “bedsit” being divided into two areas with a central brick chimney breast and triple aspect windows each with shutters. There is a second family bathroom on this floor and as one might expect, the views from this floor are even more spectacular.

There is an area of lawned garden to the front with pollarded trees and a shingle drive leads to a parking area to one side of the house and terrace and to the detached annexe building with store. This is a double storey building with independent heating which has been successfully run as a B and B with two bedroom suites – one on each floor. Alternatively, this could provide a work from home/gym opportunity depending on one’s needs.

The large gardens are delightful with a variety of mature trees including apples, pears, beech and bay a possible vegetable area and it backs onto farmland with distant views.
