History

Gledhow Hall is rich in history, with the land on which it is built having being acquired from Queen Elizabeth I by the Thwaites family. Originally built for the Beckett family, the Hall was remodelled in 1780 by the renowned York architect Sir John Carr (whose other work also includes Harewood House). In the late 1800’s it was extended further by the then owner James Kitson; who became the first Lord Mayor of Leeds and later Lord Airedale. Kitson was also responsible for creating the Grade II listed Burmantofts ‘Faience’ bathroom that now forms part of one of the apartments. The Hall was the subject of a painting by the great landscape artist jmw Turner and during the First World War it was used as a vad hospital.

This property has a Buyer Information Pack, which is a collection of documents in relation to the property. The documents may not tell you everything you need to know about the property, so you are required to complete your own due diligence before bidding. A sample copy of the Reservation Agreement and terms and conditions are also contained within this pack. The buyer will also make payment of GBP300 including VAT towards the preparation cost of the pack, where it has been provided by iamsold. The property is subject to an undisclosed Reserve Price with both the Reserve Price and Starting Bid being subject to change.
