History

The country manor house of Gayhurst abounds with history, believed to have been built on the original site of a Roman villa, the property was gifted to Sir Francis Drake in the 16th Century by Queen Elizabeth 1st in recognition of his armada triumph. In the 17th century the ownership moved to the Digby family known for their connection to the Gunpowder Plot. More recently used as a satellite for the World War II Bletchley Park codebreakers and a school, before being converted to this now very exclusive private residential estate.
