House For Sale £1,000,000
Carlton Road, Hough On The Hill, Grantham, Lincolnshire NG32

Description
A unique, immaculately presented, ultra-modern home has four generous bedrooms downstairs, one en suite, and two extremely expansive bedrooms, both en suite, upstairs. A beautifully light and airy house built to a very high specification with the principal living areas open plan, and a seamless connection to the garden, this is an exemplary building with the fluid, sensuous curves within the design of the interior a masterful feature that enhances the feeling of space and flow.

Situated in the quiet little village of Hough-on-the-Hill with a wraparound garden and integrated garage, 7 miles from Grantham where there are not only superb schools but also fast train services to London and elsewhere, this is a highly desirable family home.

“The house was built in 2014 on a site sold in 1947 by Lord Brownlow of Belton Hall. He owned all the land and buildings in the village at one time including the pub and great restaurant, The Brownlow Arms.”

“We were looking for a unique, warm, energy efficient house having lived previously in very nice but cold, draughty farmhouses and barns. Milestones, with a stunning design, location and an energy efficiency of category B, fitted these criteria.”

“Special times for us here have been evenings in the summer for cocktails with the doors open onto the patio and winter evenings slouched on the sofa slowly backing away from the heat of the wood-burner. Mornings at the weekend anytime of the year when you can wander downstairs to make tea without any understanding of what the outside temperature is.”

“When we bought Milestones, it was hiding behind a straggly hedge at the front so we removed that and several trees, grassed the area between the drive and the road, erected an oak post and rail fence and paved the drive. As a car enthusiast, I was unhappy with the unfinished nature of the garage so tiled the floor and plastered throughout. Being accessible from inside the property, this could be a garden room if preferred, leaving cars on the drive. It is so well insulated it maintains the same temperature as the house and has the same specification bi-fold doors in the rest of the house which match the windows along the front.”

“The house is painted in a single colour throughout, except for the red back wall to the TV snug and the accent blue on the staircase. We chose an off white from the Farrow & Ball colour chart but the interesting thing is that because of the interplay of light and shade in the house it creates a great deal of subtle colour changes, often remarked upon by friends.”

“We love the quiet friendliness of the house; not only is it superbly insulated, but Hough is a quiet village. The garden is a great place to relax, with the pretty blossom of the apple, pear, damson and quince trees in spring, later followed by an autumn harvest. There is a very pleasant view of the church from the house and it should be noted that the field behind the property is a protected green space being the site of an Ancient Abbey.”

“Hough is a quintessentially English village, one of the famous Lincolnshire cliff villages, sitting on top of a hill with a church which has Saxon origins. The Brownlow Arms is a good pub with really great food. Grantham and Newark are each about 20 minutes’ drive with a wide selection of shops and supermarkets. Both also have non-stop trains to London via the East Coast Main line. The location has been perfect for us enabling me to commute two days a week, with train journey times about 65 minutes, and for my wife, who works in Lincoln, about a 30 minute drive. We play golf at Belton Park, but that is only one of three golf courses within 15 minutes’ drive. It should also be remembered that along with several other good schools in Grantham and Newark, The Kings School in Grantham was attended by Isaac Newton 1655-1660. School buses provide transport for pupils to and from the village daily.”

“We are relocating to be close to family but really doubt that we shall ever manage to find a house comparable with this one that we have been so happy to call our home.”
